Description
I love this picture...the lines, the graceful form...I wish I could say it was intentional. But it wasn't. It's one of those beautiful things that just happen. I dropped my daughter and a friend at the Renaissance Festival and went out to explore some of the open space in the area. I wandered down a dirt road and found this beautiful ridge of red rock sandstone.
I explored a bit and then sat down to draw a tree. I had a cheap sketch pad, a couple of Copic markers and a brush pen. I had to hurry because it was starting to rain. The final picture looked like this:
When I looked at it, I thought, "The drawing is OK, but I really like how that top left branch came out". I cropped the picture to just that and expanded it a bit, and all of the sudden it just looked like a bit of natural haiku.

Your explanation here is a perfect example of the way an artists wrestles with himself and his subject to create a work of art. I know what you mean. I've also done some of my best work when I was in a rush and only had limited materials. This drawing has an excellent composition and attractive division of space. Dramatic!
